Canongate U.S.. HARDCOVER. Fair. Top corner of first few pages wimpled from clear liquid contact. Top edge of dust jacket front and back is a bit wavy with tide marks in the inside. Binding solid, pages crisp and clean, no markings found. Rear fly page is quite scuffed up. Cover bright and shiny with small nick, light scuffs and dents. Extremities lightly bumped with minimal tip wear.

Printed in Scotland by Robert Maclehose & Co., Ltd The University of Glasgow. 8vo, (8), 9-135, mauve cloth, single blind-ruled, gilt spine titles. Uncliipped dustjacket with a shallow strip missing front panel top edge and tow thumb-sized pieces missing real panel. Small smudge front panel. Internals near fine. No names, inscriptions, etc.

Moderate binding lean, light surface wear to cover cloth with a slight nick along lower rear joint and minor rubbing/loss to spine extremities, spine a bit sunned with label somewhat tanned and showing just a sliver of loss along one side. 135 pp. Exceedingly scarce 1st edition (which consisted of only 1,600 copies) issued by Porpoise Press, an imprint founded by the author (George Malcolm Thomson) in 1922, and astonishingly not reprinted until 2006. Jacket has chipped spine ends and light wear elsewhere, dampstains to both panels. Cloth is marked on both sides and lower spine. Stain to edge of rear endpaper. Book's corners a bit bumped Porpoise Press was founded by the author, MacDonald/Thomson, in 1922. Surprisingly, this distillation of whisky wit was not reprinted until 2006. The malt site Whiskipedia states "MacDonald's 'Whisky' is today regarded as perhaps the first modern book on whisky and certainly the first to treat the subject from the drinker's point of view." The author promotes single malt whisky over blends and defends the interests of consumers over producers. Thomson earned the nickname of Scotland's "best-hated man" while only 28 in the '30s.
