Seattle: Reynard House, 1981. First Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. Near fine dust jacket with 1cm clean tear upper rear. The book has minor fading at top of spine, is clean, has no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, basically fine condition. The book measures 234mm tall x 150mm, and has 310 pages, 9 peak sketches (several with routes indicated), 1 chart, 2 sketches. Climbs of Broad Pk, Kanchenjunga (with Boardman, Tasker, Scott), Kusum, Kanqura, Everest attempt, Nuptse. Bettembourg was a rising star among Himalayan climbers, tragically killed in the summer of 1983 while crystal hunting on the Contamine Spur of the North Face of the Aiguille Verte when, during the last rappel off the route, a large slab detached 400 meters above, knocking him and another off the mountain, witnessed by a fellow guide and client who were climbing with them.
