New York: The James A. McCann Company. Fair. (c.1921). First Edition. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [covers heavily edgeworn, especially along spine; hinges a little weak, binding still intact, but frontispiece photo is starting to pull loose]. (B&W photographic plates) Advice for would-be film artists (mostly actors), from the most famous husband-and-wife screenwriting team of their day (although by all accounts Miss Loos brought a lot more talent to the partnership; as she herself later put it, "what a terrible let down it [was] to find out that I was smarter than he was"). This was actually the second book they co-authored, following "How to Write Photoplays," published the previous year, and focuses more on what one might need to know to be a success in front of the cameras rather than behind them. Representative chapter titles: "Would You Film Well?"; "How to Dress for a Picture"; "Inside the Brain of a Movie Star." There are also…

Description:
Philadelphia: George W. Jacobs & Company, 1923. Red hardcover cloth binding square and tight, bumped corners, a bit of soiling inside spine edge grooves front and back covers. Spine is rounded but I think that is the way it was originally bound. Title and names in black. A scratch mark in front cover and very light soiling. Hinges inside covers are good. A bit of minor foxing and a few smudges. Slight crack between title page and frontispiece photograph which shows the authors reading the scenarios. Originally published by The James A. McCann Company in 1920. 154 pages. Besides frontispiece photo, 4 other glossy b/w inside with one next to page 56 just becoming detached bottom couple of inches. 26 chapters starting with Let's Write a Movie, Tools and Trades, and Getting the Story Across and ending with How to Begin, Midway in the Photoplay and The Final Close-up - all followed by the scenario from The Love Expert. Inbetween chapters cover marketing, writing for the camera, the kind of stories…
