Biography of gunfighter and scout, stagecoach driver, lawman of the frontier terretories of Kansas and Nebraska, soldier in the Union Army, and professional gambler, and legendary figure of American West, Wild Bill (James Butler) Hickok(1837-1876). Wild Bill Hickok was born in Homer (now named Troy Grove), Illinois; now a historic site. He died in a saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota, in a gambling shootout; here he is honored with a Memorial Hall. Many fictional tales surround Wild Bill's life. This biography attempts to "sift facts from fiction, reality from legend" with Bibliography to rear. Fine copy less dust jacket.
