Paul Belloni Du Chaillu was a French-American traveler, zoologist, and anthropologist. He became famous in the 1860s as the first modern European outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas, and later the Pygmy people of central Africa. New York: Harper and Brothers, 1896 A solid book, hinges intact, has a very slight lean. Brown end papers , numerous engravings including the frontispiece have tissue protection intact. Minor reading smudges and very little foxing although tissues are yellowed.. Brown boards with gilt decoration of gorilla , guns and title. Spine gilt is very dulled although title in embossed. Bumping and rubbing to most edges indicative of shelfwear.
