About This Item

London, England: London, UK: Shakespeare Head, 1954, 1st UK edition, First Printing, 1954. ----------hardcover, a solid Very Good copy, some browning to endpapers, in a FAIR ONLY dustjacket, substantial loss to the spine of the jacket as well as some loss on the front panel near the spine, dustjacket is ready to separate along spine but is stabilized with the mylar protector holding everything in place, front board has been slightly bent and shows a crack to the fixed blank endpaper on the verso of the front board, overall a tight square copy that looks quite nice with the jacket in a hi-quality mylar protector, scarce in any edition, this copy has been signed by HULME on the title page "Kathryn Hulme", as well this copy has been signed and inscribed 'Katie" by Hulme to Angele and Jaques Levesque and dated 1954 Eagle Rock California, Hulme lived in Eagle Rock for a good portion of her later life with her long-time companion Marie-Louise Habets, who was Hulme’s inspiration for The Nun’s Story, ---Angele Levesque was part of the 'ORGEVAL' circle of friends which included Solita Solano to whom this book is dedicated, letters and correspondence to Levesque are contained in the Solano archives as well as the Hulme archives in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, a significant association copy and even better a signed and inscribed copy dated in the year of publication, 275 pages, ---"In the secret depths of the Bavarian forests lay The Wild Place - Wildflecken. Here Hitler had a training camp for his elite, the ski troops and SS. And here, for five years after his destruction, a tiny band of UN workers brought new hope to more than 100,000 of of his homeless and helpless victims. ---", any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo //SIGNED///.
