Cowper was a recluse, unable to find a comfortable place in 18th Century society. Son of a preacher, he could not avoid the cult of Evangelicalism, yet he was not the cheerleader type. His literary influence was much greater than commonly known, though his periodic insanity was no secret. 165 pp..
