Winchester: Warren & Son. For the Author, 1941. A copy with very good provenance [see below] and signed by the author to the front end paper. Pp. xvii, 14; b/w plates, folding family tree. Dust jacket a little chipped and rubbed to the edges, not price-clipped, now protected in a clear removable archival sleeve and sightly frayed. Contents very good and tight, a couple of small catalogue marks from the National Library of Scotland and deaccession stamp of the same to the front end paper, otherwise contents unmarked, pages clean and crisp. Provenance: From the library of Sir George Taylor: former director of Kew, keeper of botany, British Museum, plant collector and botanist. Taylor's library was denoted to the National Library of Scotland, who on receiving his books marked them with a code number and small stamp - this one Tay 173; subsequently when the library realised that they already had a copies, de-accessioned them and sold them off!. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 22 x 14cm.

A first edition of this absorbing biography about 18th century botanist, apothecary, and entomologist William Curtis. Found in scarce dust wrapper. Author W. Hugh Curtis draws on the letters of the botanist and apothecary William Curtis in this interesting biography. With 17 illustrations, including a folding plate of the Curtis pedigree to the rear, collated and complete. Found in its original dust wrapper. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding, found with the original price clipped dust wrapper, wrapped in protective plastic. A white mark to each board, with some very light bumping to the head and tail of the spines, and some minor wear to the extremities. Some of the wrap is missing to the tail of the spine, more so to the head. The corner of the wrap is missing towards the fore edge too. Internally, firmly bound.
