Second impression, 8vo, pp. xvi, 475; errata slip tipped to flyleaf; 15 illustrations on 13 plates; contemporary full brown calf by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, with quadruple gilt borders on covers enclosing gilt title, thistles in the corners, spine in 6 compartments gilt lettered direct in 2, thistles in 4, t.e.g.; minor rubbing; about fine. Nicoll, a knighted Presbyterian minister born in Aberdeen, was a close friend of J. M. Barrie and a collaborator with Thomas J. Wise in the preparation of Literary Anecdotes of the Nineteenth Century.
