Boston: Little, Brown, 1929. First Edition. Cloth. Very good +/fair. 276 p. 21 cm. With a colour frontispiece and 25 illustrations in black and white by Kurt Wiese. Blue cloth, stamped in black on cover and spine. The front cover illustration is of a prairie dog and the spine has a jumping antelope. Minor wear at the corners and spine ends. In mylar-covered dustjacket with moderate chipping at corners and spine ends, exept for 3.0 x 3.5-cm piece out of the bottom left corner of the front panel where it meets the spine panel. Not price-clipped. Decorated endpapers. Presentation bookplate of the Ontario Woman's Christian Temperance Union to Emmaline Dale pasted on the front free endpaper. The author's first book, set in Colorado. "The Hash Knife Ranch is the home of a motherless brother and sister, their father, their faithful cowboy, and their pets - a ram, collie, pigeon, prairie dog, bronco, and an antelope . . . Lenora Weber.” Additionally signed by Mary Pickford on the front pastedown: “Best wishes, Mary Pickford.” and including Miss Pickford’s stamp on the front free endpaper: “Mary Pickford Studios, Hollywood, Cal.” With an ownership signature. Illustrated by Kurt Weise. Very good copy with a touch of edge wear and very minor rubbing to the cloth at the spine, not affecting the lettering, without dust jacket.
