The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame - 1940

New York: The Limited Editions Book Club, 1940 A near fine copy of the 1st edition of Wind in the Willows illustrated by Arthur Rackham. The Wind in the Willows was his last commission, working on the illustrations through his final illness. The Limited Editions issue was designed by Bruce Rogers and signed by him on a limitation page at the rear of the book. This copy is number 1129 of 2020. It is in a plain linen weave covered slip case which is in clean and sound condition with a small bump to one corner. The book is in the original quarter yellow cloth binding with patterned paper backed boards. The spine has gilt titles and has darkened. The binding is very clean with light wear to corners. Top page edges gilted. Contents: initial blank; tipped in frontispiece; title; introduction by A A Milne; contents and illustrations lists; half title; text pp 13-245 with 15 further tipped in plates; and colophon leaf at the rear. There is an ink ownership signature in capital letters at the front endpaper. Contents otherwise in fine clean condition with small ripple to side edge of text p 117.
