Half-tone frontispiece with tissue guard, and three plates; integral leaf publisher’s advertisements at end; pp.317+[i (blank)]+[ii]; black buckram blocked red white and (minimally) gilt, lettered gilt, on front cover and spine. Neat contemporary ownership inscription on front end-paper; a little insignificant foxing, but a crisp, bright, and virtually fine copy. Set in Hungary: a complicated story of kidnapping and intrigue, with a lady detective. There is no list of plates, but they are marked for pp.46, 55, and 280, and here bound in at those openings. Hubin, p.279. All books listed by Robert Temple are first editions unless otherwise stated.
