Hurst and Blackett, London., 1885. First edition. Octavo. Three volumes: pp [vi], 295; [vi], 303; [vi], 334. 8 pages of adverts at rear of third volume. Grey cloth lettered and ruled in silver. The author's second novel of which only 500 copies were printed.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed by him on the verso of the front free endpaper: ''To Ella M. Green from her affectionate brother the Author. February 1885.'' The recipient is the author's sister.Each volume has been sympathetically recased retaining the original endpapers. Some spotting here and there. Covers rubbed at the edges and slightly marked. A very good set. Rare.
