Light wear to ends of spine and corners of boards, board edges have slight wear. Small bookplate to front pastedown endpaper (P.G. [Panof Grafsos] Skinos). Small mark to top margin of 8 pages, text is otherwise very clean throughout. German language. The first edition of 'The Joke and Its Relation to the Unconscious', Freud's analysis of jokes and humour. The first English translation (by Abraham Arden Brill) appeared in 1916 as 'Wit and It's Relation to the Unconscious.' A better translation (by James Strachey) was published in 1960 as 'Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious'. The book was famously quoted by Woody Allen in his opening monologue to Annie Hall. Originally issued in card wraps, uncommon in a contemporary hardback binding. Overall condition is Very Good. International postage will be less than the stated rate.
