Pp. 259, [2] Illustrated in color by W.W. Denslow, plus 16 colour plates (including the title page). Mixed state of the second edition, with the title on the cover stamped "The Wizard of Oz" ("New" was the first state) Binding variant 'B' with 'The' at head of spine in unserified type and with period following 'Baum' on spine; three entries in the copyright notice; plates in variant order 'A'. Bienvenue & Schmidt p. 7.; the crow's eyes on the front cover stamped in orange; the illustration on p.49 at the bottom of the page; resetting of type to the top of lines of pp. 169 and [7]; and with the illustration of the crying lion is on p.68 (was later substituted for with the worried lion on p.63). Light rubbing to the cover and toning to the pages, binding slightly shaken still tight. Contemporary name and Inscription in pencil to front end page, Stamp of Fred'k Loeser & Co, Department store in Brooklyn to bottom of title page. Uncommon edition. .

Synopsis

When Nancy searches through the knapsack of an amnesia victim, she finds an unusual ring. Before long, she is caught up in a second assignment from a beautiful harpist. Nancy's discoveries reveal an important connection between the hospital patient, the harpist, and enemies from abroad.
