Unclipped DJ in protective sleeve in poor condition with large tear to front cover and flap, chipping to spine and edges with some pieces missing. Original green cloth binding with gilt to spine in very good condition with a little shelf wear to top & tail of spine. Inside all pages and plates in very good/near fine condition.

Mild jacket edgewear and a few edge chips. Superb true first edition of this well-illustrated master class by the prolific German-American practitioner (1888-1962). Not the more common 1945 first trade edition (American Artists Group), but the true first (limited to 3000 copies) issued simultaneously with the 250 print suites.
