Octavo; 336pp. In contemporary full leather (lightly worn to extremities), gilt roll to board margins, spine divided into six compartments with gilt rolls, gilt lettered black and red spine labels to second and fifth compartments (one label chipped with minor loss), remaining compartments with gilt lyre motif, early ink ownership name to front pastedown,very light dampstain to first three leaves, opening and closing leaves stained by turn ins, a clean attractive example providing the general index and list of contents for Johnson's edition of the English Poets, of which this is the final volume. ESTC T152606 (vol.75).

J. Heath & G. Kearsley, 1802. Hardcover. Good. 1802. No edition remarks. 299 pages. Half bound brown leather with marbled paper covered boards and text block edges. Volume 4. Gilt lettering and decorations to the spine. Black and white illustrated plates. Ownership plate to pastedown. Annotations to a couple of the pages, with other pencil marks first few pages. Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing in certain places. Heavy thumb marking present.Plates are bright and clear, with some light tanning and foxing to the edges. Cracking to guttering between pages 130-1 but binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy tanning to top text block. Lettering remain clear and bright. A couple of scuffs to the leather spine and edges peeling. Water marks to the leather board.

Charles Whittingham, for John Sharpe, 1806. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1806. No Edition Stated. 152 pages. Brown tree calf with gilt titles to spine. Vol VII. With illustrated frontispiece. Note: a heavily damaged book with loose front board. Pages are rather marked with pronounced tanning and foxing, plus thumbing. Pencil inscriptions to front endpaper. A few dog-eared corners. Heavy water staining to first few pages. Intense cracking to hinges. Boards have heavy edge wear, with bumping and fraying to corners and almost total loss of edge tooling. Spine ends are crushed and frayed. Joints worn too. Large loss of spine leather with visible gatherings and possible fire damage. Front board almost detached. Scratched, rubbed and marked overall.

Could have been a library book (signs of ripped out ticket holder and plate on front end papers, but no other signs). In very good olive green cloth boards, gilt titles to back strip. The covers are very clean, tight and straight and are not the original. Clean off-white replacement end papers. Tanned cut edges. The text block is original from publisher; a little worn; tightly bound; some pages slightly wrinkled; sporadic foxing. Very good condition. No annotations or dedications. Without jacket.
