Recent panelled calf, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered dark red label, all edges marbled, an old ownership inscription (possibly 19th century) to the head of the title page, another later inscription dated 1963 just beneath. A little wear to the lower corners of the preliminary leaves, very good overall. Wing, M129. Erratically paginated as issued and complete, a full collation is available on request.

Erratically paginated as usual but this copy also lacking two leaves: (32), 163, 164-179 (variously misnumbered), (1), (8), (4), 199-262 , 265 (misnumbered as 256)-267, (5), 267-314 but pp. 275/76 (Oo) and 281/82 (Oo4) apparently never bound in, 317-431, (5), 433-528, pp. Fairly recent full calf, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered black label, renewed endpapers but with one of the original flyleaves retained to the front featuring the ownership inscription of a Charles Walmesley dated 1802, the same name in a similar or possibly earlier hand appears on the title page, a few marginal annotations to the contents leaves, an additional leaf bound in towards the front of the volume in "Machiavel's Letter" being a near contemporary handwritten lengthy excerpt from Henry Neville's pamphlet "Machiavel's vindication of himself and his writings against the imputation of impiety, atheism, and… Read More
