Thick, very heavy Folio in 1/2 black leather (leather spine and corner pieces), gilt lettering to spine, dark brown boards. 824pp, hundreds of steel engravings in the text plus vignette title-page and 20 finely printed steel engravings on thicker stiff paper, 8 coloured maps on thin card at rear.
