New York: Kelmscott Society Publisher's, [Frontispiece dated 1900.]. Complete 36 titles, bound into 18 volumes, which is standard for Balzac. Bound in leather bindings. Gilded spines. Ornate floral gilding. Top edges are gilded. Gilded facsimile signature to covers. Gilded title pages. Full page plates. 8 1/8 inches tall. 28.5 inches of shelf space. VERY GOOD condition. The leather is very fresh and well preserved. The hinges are all strongly attached, although there is some abrasion, and some starting that has been archivally sealed along the exterior leather of one volume, held firmly underneath. Internally very fresh, bright, and clean. Some rubbing to the top gilding of one volume. Appears free of foxing and unread. No writing. This set would make an excellent gift and/or addition to any fine library. In addition to their shelf presence, antiquarian books make an excellent investment. Contains black and white illustrated plates. Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout. Occasional thumb-marking present. Slight cracking to rear hinge with exposed binding. Water staining to pages throughout. Light scuffing to text-block edges. Binding is shaky. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Crushing to spine ends with splits and loss to leather. Leather peeling to all surfaces, with noticeable scuffing and scratches overall. Notable splits to joints. Moderate sunning and rubbing to spine.
