This edition of The Works of J. M. Barrie was published in twelve volumes between 1913 and 1932, and The Plays of J. M. Barrie also published in twelve Volumes between 1918 and 1938. In twenty volumes. The Works include: Sentimental Tommy; Tommy and Grizel; My Lady Nicotine; An Edinburgh Eleven; The Little White Bird; When A Man's Single; Auld Light Idylls; The Little Minister; Margaret Ogilvy; and A Window in Thrums. The Plays include: Alice Sit-by-The-Fire; The Twelve-Pound Look and Other Plays; Dear Brutus; A Kiss for Cinderella; Shall We Join the Ladies; What Every Woman Knows; Quality Streetl The Old Lady Shows her Medals; The Admirable Crichton and Mary Rose. His two 'Tommy' novels, Sentimental Tommy (1896) and Tommy and Grizel (1900), are about a boy and young man who clings to childish fantasy; My Lady Nicotine a novel of sorts, featuring a series of reminiscences from a man who has given up smoking; An Edinburgh Eleven are pencil portraits from college life. His plays Alice Sit-by-The-Fire a delightful play by J. M. Barrie about educating your parents and teaching them how to be ideal; The Twelve-Pound Look and Other Plays shows a wife divorcing a peer and gaining an independent income; Dear Brutus, A Comedy in Three Acts where the characters disappear into a magical wood to live a different life for one night. When they come back they see themselves and others very differently; A Kiss for Cinderella A Comedy about a poor London girl who takes care of a group of refugee children from various countries during World War I. Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet, OM (1860 - 1937) was a Scottish author and dramatist, best remembered today as the creator of Peter Pan. This play quickly overshadowed his previous work and although he continued to write successfully, it became his best-known work. Before his death, he gave the rights to the Peter Pan works to Great Ormond Street Hospital, which continues to benefit from them. Barrie's attention turned increasingly to works for the theatre and he had a long string of successes on the stage after Peter Pan, many of which discuss social concerns. Other plays, such as Mary Rose and a subplot in Dear Brutus revisit the image of the ageless child. Later plays included What Every Woman Knows (1908). His final play was The Boy David (1936), which dramatised the Biblical story of King Saul and the young David. Condition: In calf bindings. Externally, smart but with occasional wear to extremities and odd rubbing to boards with slight loss to board to A Window in Thrums. Internally, firmly bound. Generally bright and clean with the odd spot to some volumes. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED.
