An interesting reference for those interested in historical perspectives on various processes used in the trade - everything from how finishes are accomplished to tricks of the trade. In the introduction (dated 1873) Spon indicates this should be useful to the trades who while they might not attempt various finishes, etc on a daily basis, might need a reference on the odd occasion it was needed. Written with a practical eye to the practitioner rather than the theoretical, it was reprinted in various editions and updates well into the 20th century. Topics include Bronzes and Bronzing, Dyeing, Cements, Varnishes, Japans and Polishes, Pigments, Lathing and Plastering, Firework Making, Electro-metallurgy, etc etc. You get the idea. A useful and interesting view into industrial and craft processes in the period.
