About This Item

St. Louis: FERD. P. KAISER, 1900. EDITORIAL EDITION. Limited To Only 50 Sets. THE WORLD'S BEST ESSAYS: From the Earliest Period to the Present Times. This is the rare Editorial Edition. Additionally, this set is a Signed association gift from the editor, David J. Brewer. Dated 1903, and inscribed: "The most valuable estate on earth is the human heart - Each of you ??? has two - Tenderly care for both." Bound in leather bindings. Gilded spines. The top edges are gilded. Marbled end papers. Printed on thick quality paper with wide margins. Well laid out. Illustrated plates. These are large books measuring 10 inches tall. 18 inches of shelf space. VERY GOOD condition, but for the shelf abrasion, as shown. The hinges are all strongly attached, although some sections are abraded through, making these only Good condition externally. Printed on quality paper that is fresh, bright, and clean. The dedicatory page was removed, as well as the previous owner's name clipped from the inscription page, making the recipient of this association gift unknown. This set is ex library Benedictine Heights College stamp 22538, and spine markings in white out, which can be easily scraped off for display purposes (but would then have additional abrasion, and have therefore been left alone for the new owner to decide.) This is the rare Editorial Edition and is also an inscribed association gift. Illustrated with portraits of the authors with a printed tissue guard. Over 4200 pages. Volume ten includes 55 pages of Noted Sayings & celebrated passages, as well as; General Index of Essayists, Index of Subject of Essays, Chronological Index of Essayists and Subjects. Chronological Index of Literature, Chronological index of Religion Morals Philosophy, a general index and a lengthy publisher's appendix. This set would make an excellent gift and/or addition to any fine library. In addition to their shelf presence, antiquarian books make an excellent investment. We always pack very securely to help ensure safe handling during transit. All books are individually wrapped and are always professionally padded. We offer a full refund guarantee, per our terms described on our site, with notification of such intent requested. Please contact us with any inquiries.
