Grey cloth with black spine lettering and black-bordered brown front board lettering, pictorial dust jacket. iv, 216pp, (4pp ads). Frontispiece. Near fine/near fine. Faintest hint of jacket edgewear and age toning; front flyleaf ownership signature. Tight and quite handsome early printing of the fourth volume in the 21-volume "X Bar X Boys" series (1926-42). Circa 1930, as ad at rear lists up to ninth title (published 1930) -- while copyright page lists up to fifth title, jacket verso up to sixth title and jacket front flap up to seventh title! A wonderfully bright copy, in any case, with great jacket graphics.

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1927. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. This hardcover book is square and tight. The boards and spine show wear to the edges and exremities, with minor darkening/soiling to the spine and edges. The lettering remains bright and legible. There are various small bleached spots scattered along the spine. There is a small chip taken out of the first two pages at the foredge. The pages are clean, having no markings and not more than a few corner folds. This is a very nice copy, attractive on the shelf, easy on the eye, and with a tight feel to the hand. This title is not the last in the list printed on the page before the table of contents, a later printing.
