Birebidzshan [Biro-Bidzhan]: Emes. 1929-1940. Hardback. Yid3 , 211 . 1st editions. Original Color paper wrappers. All bound together in period cloth. 365, 99 156, 133 pages. In Yiddish. Title translates roughly as, “Composed ... Literary-Artistic and Political-Social Journal of the Jewish Autonomous Region. ” Forpost ran as a quarterly from 1936-1938; then as a bimonthly from 1939-1940, when it appears it ceased. NR. 4-5, here, may represent the final issue, as we could locate no later issue in any format anywhere. SUBJECT (S) : Jews -- Soviet Union -- Periodicals -- Colonization -- Russia (Federation) -- Birobidzhan. Jewish farmers. OCLC lists only 2 holdings for Forpost anywhere, both in Israel (NLI & UHaifa) , and we are suspicious that one or both are microfilm. Issue 4-5 is somewhat brittle, with some chipping to top margin; the other issues are browning but solid. Covers, printed on heavier stock, remain very good. Good condition overall. Very rare, here 3 complete issues. (yid-42-5) .
