Reviews
On Apr 19 2023, a reader said:
Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories is a delightful old favorite about an ambitious, self centered, fascistic turtle which was first published on my brother's 3rd birthday in the year that I became 2 years old. This imaginative illustrated collection of 3 stories starts with the famous story of Yertle the Turtle, who was 'king of all he could see', and logically concluded that, if he could see more, he could rule more. Illustrated by by Theodor Geisel, or 'Dr Seuss' in his black outline cartoon style, with selective highlights of color which imbues believable human emotion in his cast of characters. Children love the rhythmic rhymes read allowed to them with expressive vocal tones. With repeated readings, some kids memorize and recite portions of the story long before they can read it themselves. Acording th this websites synopsis of Yertle the Turtle and other stories, Seuss used "a type of meter called anapestic tetrameter." All I know is his use of it is well loved and wonderful to children of all ages!
