The Yiddish Policemen's Union: A Novel (P.S.)

by Chabon, Michael

Condition: Good/No Jacket

New York: Harper Perennial, 2008. First Paperback Edition. Paperback. Good/No Jacket. Trade Paperback in Good Condition. By the Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author of "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay". Clean and unmarked blue decorated wraps, slit about an inch on hinge edge, top and bottom; cover with French flap. Binding solid and square. Rough cut. Pages lightly and evenly toned, quite clean, no markings of any kind. Clean, tight, solid book with very slight lean to spine. Except for library markings as usual there are no markings, no other defects. A very imaginative story, larger than life folk-tale set in an alternate universe version of the present where issues of exile, belonging, identity, nationality, freedom and destiny are examined through a fun-house morror. For sixty years, Jewish refugees and their descendants have prospered in Sitka, in the panhandle of Alaska. They created a safe haven after the horrors of the Holocaust. They have been left alone in a half-forgotten backwater--but now the District is set to revert to Alaskan control and their dream is coming to an end--and then enters homicide detective Meyer Landsman, who has problems of his own. Well, get set for quite a story. 414 pages. 9.5 x 6.5 inches. HarperCollins, New York, 2007.
