New York: Harper and Brothers, 1881. Hardcover. First editions, two volumes; 9 x 6 3/4; pp. 326 and 299 respectively + publisher's advertisements; dark-blue and olive-green cloth over boards, embossed and illustrated in gilt, brown and black; a few small rubbed spots to tips of spine and corners; light age-toning and a few minor spots to boards; occasional spots of foxing to margins of pages; profusely illustrated with steel engravings; very good condition. Marvelous collections of stories about travel and adventures for juveniles, the book featured several chapters, common at the times, but quite disturbing in the present, on whaling ("cutting in" a whale) and killing fur-seals.
