[New York: Vanguard Press, 1931]. First Edition. Paperback. Study of early Depression-era industrial problems written specifically for the worker, published by the Brookwood Labor College of Katonah, NY, by two members of the faculty, Pollak, a professor of writing and economics, and Tippett, professor of strike organizing and music. Founded in 1921, the Brookwood was the first American residential labor college, supported by affiliate organizations of the AFL until 1928, when the school's militancy and advocacy for far-left socialism placed pressure on the AFL to withdraw support. Internal rifts and financial difficulties eventually led to the closing of the school in 1937. Octavo (18.5cm.); original green pictorial wrappers; xx,348pp.; illus. Spine a bit cocked and faded to tan, minor shelf wear, contemporary ownership signature to upper cover and front free endpaper, else Very Good and sound. Forms part of the Brookwood Labor Series.
