This is a truly extraordinary catalogue cum art object published in conjunction with a 1990 exhibition by the late California artist Eric Orr at Sweden's Anders Tornberg Gallery. The book itself has a blued steel spine connected to blued steel front and rear covers by linen hinges. This is accompanied by James Lee Byars' multiple "The Sphere of Generosity" - which is a handmade, fired ceramic sphere. These are each housed in a molded Styrofoam box, which is in turn inside a printed cardboard sleeve. For Orr's piece "The Matter of O" (pp15) the artist has applied his own blood to the book, via a rubber stamp. The "Skull Page" (pages 163/164) features intensely monochromatic red paper pages handmade by Yoshio Ikezaki of Los Angeles, using kozo fibers and a powdered mummy's skull. Pages 25-26 are blank, with a vertical tear specified by the artist. As with all the copies we've handled, this shows minor scratches, oxidation, and irregularities to the book's steel's patina. A most handsome example of this uniquely designed artist's book limited to one thousand copies still in the publisher's original packaging.
