New York: Holt Rinehart and Winston, 1981. 308 pp. Quarter-bound in salmon-coloured cloth on beige speckled boards; lettered in gilt on the spine; headband. Wraparound dj art and title page art by Bill Elliott. Light wear at the corners of the dustjacket with a short nick in the upper left of the front cover and some darkening on the spine; price intact; no interior markings. They hadn't set out to become the keepers of a wild menagerie but that is what happened. Their first were two baby raccoons found starving by the side of the road. The author bottle-fed them back to health, then returned them to the wild. And in the following months, other orphaned or abandoned animals came to reside on the author's farm, a skunk, a lynx, a pair of otters, a porcupine, a Canada goose and on, including an orphaned black bear cub..
