Front hinge and gutter opposite pre title page cracked with exposed netting, however text block remains firm. A few slightly dog-eared corners. Text block edges are a little tanned and foxed with minor scratches. Boards have some moderate edge wear, with slight bumping to corners and minor bumping to spine ends. Spine is noticeably sunned and also has small paint spots to bottom. Book has a moderate forward lean.

NY 1925 Knopf. Hardcover octavo. Volume 4 in a four volume series. 287p. In English. Rear inner hinge reinforced. Small margin chip on typeset final page not near text at all. Front hinge not broken; binding secure; no owner marks. Good. no dj. Reymont won Nobel Prize in literature in 1924. .

Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked. ~SP11~ [1.5P] The third of four novels in Polish novelist Wladyslaw Reymont's The Peasants series, his best known work, written in Polish between 1904-1909. Reymont was the 1924 laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature. In The Peasants, Reymont created a more complete and suggestive picture of country life than any other Polish writer. The novel impresses the reader with its authenticity of the material reality, customs, behavior and spiritual culture of the people.

Red cloth, light shelf-wear, sunning to spines, with particularly strong spine fade on "Spring," "Summer," and "Autumn." Spines square. Binding of "Summer" is cracked to mull at the first page of chapter one, with glue bleed accompanying. Binding else intact, and the bindings of the other volumes are sound. Staining/discoloration from glue at publication is present at inner hinges of all four volumes, and at the full paste downs of "Autumn." Prior owner's blind stamp to title page of all four volumes, and also to the Publisher's Note of "Summer." Pages else clean, texts unmarked.
