Translating Tradition by Jeffery, Peter - 2005

In this book, a chant historian reads Liturgiam Authenticam.  Peter Jeffery provides an extensive study of this important document, section by section.  Father Michael Joncas has recommened Translating Tradition as one of the best commentaries on the document.  Bryan Spinks says that "this book is crucial reading for those concerned with Western liturgical evolution and the possible course of future revision."  Maxwell Johnson says that "Peter Jeffery has provided us with a superb and much needed analysis of the controverisal document, Liturgiam Authenticam.  This [book] should be required reading for all who seek a balanced approachto the questions . . . arising from the translation of liturgical texts."

Gabrielle Winkler has praised the author as a scholar of outstanding merit.  From 1993 to 2010, he has been the Scheide Professor of Music History at Princeton University, where he received his doctorate in 1980.
