About This Item
NYC: Knopf, 1972. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good-. Excuse the long-winded entry but based on looking at numerous descriptions of first editions of this item some clarification is in order. The dates are given variously as 1971 and 1972, 1971 is the date given on the copyright page (original UK cright I presume) 1972 on title page Publisher is given as Knopf in some places, Random (Maryland?) in others. Book is published by Knopf, DISTRIBUTED by RH.NY, why some listings give a Maryland location for RH is not clear to me. Book is stated as First American Edition, 455 numbered pages, Red topstain, Deckle (uneven cut) fore-edge. Yellow cloth with gilt stamping. . . A stated first edition Book Club was also done (unpriced jkt., square debossing mark next to Borzoi logo, false first no value) our book has jacket priced at $7.95, price did not change on later editions/printings. My source for the above information was Lee's "20th Century 1st Edition Guide" and Mandeville, this copy matches their entries perfectly. The book's front cover has a (barely visible) mild full length light stripe, am certain is as made, bound with cloth with this character. Gilt excellent. Jacket front flap has some creasing, some edgewear, no long tears. No marking, not x library. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. We assure the buyer that books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, using the strict, traditional standards.*
