First Edition 408pp. Touch of flaking to gilt, very faint stain to rear pastedown endpaper and terminal blank, edges dusty, occasional foxing, else a very good hardcover in purple cloth covered boards decoratively stamped in gilt; the pictorial dustwrapper is in fair to good condition, with edgewear and shallow chipping, a one-inch jagged chip at head of spine partially affecting two letters in the title, the front flap is holding, but torn at both top and base, the spine is dulled (with an internal stain), and the rear panel soiled. Presentation copy, signed and dated (1938) by Eric Acland on fly leaf.
