Syracuse, NY: D. Mason & Co., 1886. Extracted from a rare 1886 book, History of Rutland County Vermont, edited by H.P. Smith and W.S. Rann, this booklet gives a detailed account of the Civil War as it effected the people of this county. The NEW spiral-bound 76 page booklet is printed on 8.5" x 11" 60# paper. The front cover is protected by a vinyl sheet. (Separate histories of the City of Rutland, of Rutland County and of other Vermont counties are also available.) Topics in the first part of the booklet include: Patriotism of Vermont, Honorable Serices of the Troops, Action at the First Call for Volunteers, Company C (Rutland Light Guards) of the First Regiment, it's Re-enlistment in the 12th Regiment, Career of the Regiment, the Fifth and 11th Regiments, Vermont Brigade, Career of the Brigade, the Seventh Regiment, the Tenth Regiment and its Career, the Ninth Regiment, First Regiment Vermont Sharpshooters, Career of Company F, First Vermont Cavalry, Nine-months Volunteers, the 12th and 14th Regiments, Second Battery Light Artillery and Roster of Officers from Rutland County. This is followed by a poem "The Vermont Volunteers" by William Ford. The final section of the booklet includes the names of soldiers from each town in the county, along with the organization they joined: Rutand, Brandon, Benson, Castleton, Clarendon, Chittenden, Fairhaven, Hubbardton, Ira, Mendon, Middletown, Mount Holly, Mount Tabor, Pawlet, Pittsfield, Pittsford, Poultney, Sherburne, Shrewsbury, Sudbury, Tinmouth and Wallingford..
