94 pages with 22 color illustrations including frontispiece. Duodecimo (5 3/4" x 4 1/4") issued in original purple with red cloth spine and black lettering, color pictorial to front cover. Illustrations by John Rea Neill. Early reprint. In 1904 Altemus published the first six books of a series of fairy tale books that would prove to be an extremely popular and a very long running series. "An entirely new series of books for children, especially adapted for Christmas or birthday gifts" Altemus Catalogue 1904-1905. These books had three different formats. The first is the scarest while the third is more common. As time went on, Altemus discontinued most of its other fairy tale books to concentrate on this group of books. New books were added year and spin-off series combined into one large umbrella listing. (Later, after Henry Altemus went out of business, Platt and Munk reprinted many of the books.) unpaginated with colored frontispiece and illustrated through out. Octavo (9" x 6 1/4") bound in stiff pictorial boards. Illustrations by Johnny Gruelle. First edition. Johnny Gruelle created Raggedy Ann for his daughter, Marcella, when she brought him an old hand-made rag doll and he drew a face on it. From his bookshelf, he pulled a book of poems by James Whitcomb Riley, and combined the names of two poems, "The Raggedy Man" and "Little Orphan Annie." He said, "Why don t we call her Raggedy Ann?" Marcella died at age 13 after being vaccinated at school for smallpox without her parents' consent. Authorities blamed a heart defect, but her parents blamed the vaccination. Gruelle became an opponent of vaccination, and the Raggedy Ann doll was used as a symbol by the anti-vaccination movement. This work is the third book in the "Raggedy Ann and Andy Series." Condition: Some internal fingering, spine ends rubbed, front head corner paper rubbed off, front cover rubbed through in several places. A better than good copy.

11+[20 unnumbered illustrations] pages with frontispiece and illustrations with titled tissue guards. Folio (11 1/2" x 10") bound in original quarter beige cloth with green lettering to spine with gilt and green lettering to cover and remnants of jacket. With an appreciation by H M Cundall. First edition. Catherine "Kate" Greenaway (17 March 1846 – 6 November 1901) was an English children's book illustrator and writer. Her drawings gave rise to a fashion in young children's clothing in the 1880s and 1890s. Greenaway spent much of her childhood at Rolleston, Nottinghamshire. She studied at what is now the Royal College of Art in London, in the section for women. (The college was then headed by Richard Burchett.) Her first book, Under the Window(1879), a collection of simple, perfectly idyllic verses about children, was a bestseller. Greenaway's paintings were reproduced by chromoxylography, by which the colors were printed from hand-engraved wood blocks by the firm of Edmund Evans. Through the 1880s…

Fred Rogers: First Experiences Book Series: Going To the Doctor (1986 1st Ed. 3rd Pr. Thus, G.P. Putnam)RARE in this first hardcover edition. Quite the find. Used. VG/VG condition unclipped dust jacket, printed price $12.95 Mr. Rogers appears on the back dj panel wearing a pale blue sweater. "In this book, real life photos are used to help young people feel more comfortable with interacting with other children and making new friends. A Note From Fred Rogers: A child's first visit with a pediatrician usually comes soon after birth. It may be months or even years later, though, that a child first shows fear about going to see a doctor. The worry of an injection or some other unfamiliar medical procedure can trigger that fear. It can also appear because another family member may be feeling medical anxieties.
