London: G.G. And J. Robinson (1793), 1796. Second Edition . Quarter Calf. Near Fine. Octavo. Second (Corrected) Edition (Stated) , First Printing With 1796 Dates On Title Pages. Two Volumes. Contemporary Marbled Boards, Skillfully And Beautifully Re-Backed To Style In Bright Quarter Leather, Compartments On Spines With Red Morocco Labels, Gilt Decoration And Gilt Rules, Leather Tips. Half-Titles, Blank Free Endpapers, And Errata Present In Both Volumes; . Printing And Mind Of Man Title (For First Edition). In Revising The 1793 First Edition Of Political Justice (1793) In 1796, Godwin Remarked That He Had Not Yielded "A Proper Attention To The Empire Of Feeling." He Further Thought That "Not Only The Passions Of Men, But Their Judgments, Are To A Great Degree The Creatures Of Their Sympathy." These Judgments Contradict His Earlier Opinions In The First Edition That Reason Alone Can Determine Human Action. Thus The Second Edition, Not The First, Represents In This And Other Ways Godwin's Evolved Thoughts. Engraved Nineteenth Century Bookplates Of C. B. Farwell (1823-1903), U. S.
