Outer edge of pages sl. darkened o/w near fine in wrapper that is sl. worn at edges and chipped at head and tail of spine. The whole is housed in a custom made clam-shell matching blue cloth box.

The First UK printing published by Collins, London in 1960. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Some bumping to the corners with toning to the text-block and page edges. Free from inscriptions. Minor expert professional restoration to the spine ends with rebacking of the original spine. Light offsetting to the B/W map endpapers designed by Charles Green. Small penned number '31' to the front upper pastedown which is obscured by the front flap. The WRAPPER is neatly price-clipped and is in near Fine condition. Mild edge-wear with a little rubbing at the corners and folds. Short closed tears to the lower rear edge and the front lower spine fold. The George Adamson wrapper artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed on the day of publication to the author's cousin and god-daughter: 'For Brenda, Alan, 10.X.60'. The author's very scarce first title in the acclaimed 'Alderney edge' trilogy. Spine tips a trifle pushed, front board just a bit bowed and light foxing to the fore-edge overall a VG copy. The D/W (which is NOT price-clipped) is also in VG condition and is very slightly edge-worn with a touch of rubbing to the extremities.
