Published when she was only 18, Susan Eloise Hinton’s first book was praised as "an impressive performance a book alive with the fresh dialogue of her contemporaries" (New York Times). It was the basis of the acclaimed Francis Ford Coppola film, starring Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe and Diane Lane.

The first appearance of the classic teenage gang story, which was adapted into the Brat Pack-packed 1983 Francis Ford Coppola film. The author herself was still a teenager when it was published.
