Large folio consisting of 5 ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPHS and the title and colophon pages. For her favorite poem, originally published in I SHALL NOT BE MOVED, Angelou chose the internationally acclaimed African-American printmaker John Biggers to illustrate a book published by the Limited Editions Club in an edition of only 400 numbered copies signed by both the author and the artist. It was one of the largest-format books (17-3/4" x 22") ever issued by the club. This is the separate portfolio of 5 numbered 18" x 24" lithographs, all individually SIGNED by the artist, laid in a large cloth clamshell box with the artist's name lettered in black on the front. This is set #58 of only 60 sets in addition to about a dozen various proof copies.

Folio (22-1/2" x 20") consisting of 6 color etchings and 3 letterpress text pages: a title page, table of contents, and a colophon page. There were 400 copies of Angelou's book illustrated by Mitchell and published by the Limited Editions Club but only 90 copies of the portfolio of numbered and SIGNED color etchings of jazz musicians playing various instruments. This is copy #26 of 75 (there were also 15 Proofs), with each etching numbered and SIGNED by the artist.

Maya Angelou created this book for the Limited Editions Club: she wrote the poem, she selected the artist, the award-winning water colorist Dean Mitchell, and asked Wynton Marsalis to compose and then perform an original jazz composition just for this book (a CD copy is tucked into the solander box). Mitchell wrote an Afterword, relating his composition to the poetry.
The book was designed, typeset, and printed by Dan Carr and Julia Ferrari. Carol Joyce bound the book and the solander box in a matching tan fabric with morocco labels for the book and the spine of the box.
The book has six color etchings created by Mitchell and printed by Peter Pettengill. Marsalis and his sextet performed the work, with Angelou reciting her poem. Signed by Angelou, Mitchell, and Marsalis. As New. History LEC p. 239.

Wynton Marsalis brings a 3rd dimension, who composed a 30min interpretation of Angelou's as a celebration of Jazz. A CD of the composition, which includes Maya Angelou reading her poem is included in a special compartment of the case. The book was very well received by critics, Michael Kimmelman from the New York Times, dedicated almost the entire front page of the April 26th 2002 edition to Mitchell's art. Without dj as issued. Laid is a blank Easton book plate along with the COA. This copy was only opened to check integrity and then archive bagged immediately. The clamshell box is covered in the same red linen and lined in black. The book is in fine condition with tight binding, pristine pages, no names or other markings. The box is near fine condition with a faded (but red) spine and uneven fading to the top lid.
