This lithograph was used as the frontispiece for the series of song sheets entitled Le Vielles Histoires, Répertoire Mondain published by G. Ondet. The song sheets were illustrated by Toulouse-Lautrec, [6] to [10]. Henri-Gabriel Ibels, Henri Rachou and others. The image of a formally dressed Parisian Désiré Dihau top hat leading a bear (Jean Goudezski) on a leash to the Institute de France (Bibliotheque Nationale) with the Eiffel Tower and an air balloon in the background is the only scene Toulouse-Lautrec ever created of the city of Paris.

"This famous poster advertising Le Jardin de Paris shows the high-kicking performance of the dynamic Jane Avril in the quadrille naturaliste, framed by the staff of the orchestra's bass fiddle. Vaucaire described the dance in the August 1, 1886, Paris Illustré as 'that wonderful, insolent joke in which two women advanced side by side, each balancing on one foot while keeping the other at the level of the spectators' eyes.
