Frontispiece on japon by Beardsley. Spine faded and minimally rolled, minor rubbing to very tips, top edge lightly dust toned, foxing to prelims, though not affecting frontispiece, and occasionally to contents; a very good, bright, copy. First edition of the author's first book of prose. A Book of Bargains is a collection of short, "elaborately written, fin de siècle" supernatural stories (Blieler 1265). O'Sullivan, though born in New York, completed his education in England, and lived in London throughout his adult life. He was close friends with Oscar Wilde, being fully integrated into his literary circle, and wrote an impassioned defence of Wilde, Aspects of Wilde, in 1936.
