Richmond: The Hogarth Press,, 1921. A fine copy of a notoriously fragile book First edition, first impression. This early Hogarth Press publication was the only short story collection by Woolf that she lived to see released. "Leonard Woolf stated that the book was printed by F. T. McDermott of the Prompt Press, Richmond, who used to give him advice on printing problems when he and Mrs. Woolf first started the Hogarth Press" (Kirkpatrick). Woolf was concerned about the quality of Monday or Tuesday and what its critical reception would be. She wrote in her diary on 6 March 1921, "Nessa approves of Monday or Tuesday - mercifully; & thus somewhat redeems it in my eyes". Octavo. The Hogarth Press edition, published earlier in the same year, was issued without a jacket. This copy is in a binding variant not mentioned by Kirkpatrick, who describes a green quarter cloth binding with brown board sides. On the front pastedown is the bookplate of William Beekman; much of his excellent Bloomsbury Group and Hogarth Press collection now forms part of the Berg Collection at the New York Public Library.
