One of only 1500 copies printed of one of the central works of the twentieth century. Complete with three photographic plates, including the frontispiece portrait of Anne Frank. "The diary written by Anne Frank is probably the single most widely read book to come out of the Holocaust (Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, 1952; first published as Het Achterhuis, 1947). Millions of readers have read the story of the teenage girl's two years in hiding. It has been translated into more than thirty-five languages and published in as many countries. Description:
Amsterdam: Uitgeverij Contact, 1947. Very good.. First edition of the world-famous "Diary of a Young Girl," a moving monument of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany's cataclysmic destruction of individual lives, communities, and cultures. Begun on her 13th birthday, Anne Frank's notebooks record the following two years of her family's life in hiding, her final entry made just days before the family's arrest and internment; the afterword records her death in Bergen-Belsen in 1945. Conventionally known as a "diary, " Frank's text was written and rewritten in the form of letters to an imaginary "Kitty" and composed with an eye not only to posterity but to eventual publication: in May of 1944, she began to edit and rewrite her previous entries in a second notebook: assigning pseudonyms to the people she wrote about, removing unsatisfactory entries and expanding others, and standardizing her chosen literary form. The title HET ACHTERHUIS (literally "The House Behind" or "The Secret Annex") was her own.… Read More

Description:
26/09/1969. Otto Frank The story of Anne Frank and her family and friends in the Annex is too well-known to justify repeating here. What is less well-known, however, is the important work her father did after the Holocaust to preserve Anne’s memory, and views of life, into the future. After Auschwitz was liberated, Anne’s father, Otto Frank, returned to Amsterdam. On his way back, he heard of his wife Edith’s death. Back in Amsterdam, he did everything he could to find out what had happened to his two daughters Anne and Margot. He placed an advertisement in the newspaper and talked to survivors who were returning from the camps. He wrote to his sister, “I just can’t think how I would go on without children having lost Edith already…It’s too upsetting for me to write about them. Naturally I still hope, and wait, wait, wait.""On July 18, 1945, he met two sisters who had been in Bergen-Belsen with Anne and Margot, and they told him that his daughters were dead. The next day Otto sent a… Read More

Description:
Warsaw: Film Polski/ Filmowa Agencja Wydawnicza, 1955. First edition. Softcover. The groundbreaking Polish motion picture Ostatni Etap (meaning 'The Last Stage'), is considered the first post-war feature film to portray the experiences of prisoners in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. The film primarily focuses on the experiences of a central group of women in the Auschwitz-Berkenau concentration camp. In a shocking instance of art imitating life, the film's director and co-writer Wanda Jakubowska (1907-1998) was herself a survivor of Auschwitz, and in July of 1947, began filming this powerful semi-autobiographical work at the very same location she was held as a prisoner less then 3 years earlier. Additionally, some other members of the cast and crew had been prisoners at Auschwitz and numerous local townspeople and Red Army soldiers were cast as extras. The director also utilized original uniforms and equipment from the camp as costumes and props. The content of the film is based on the… Read More

Title translates as, "The Jewish Information Central. Reports of the Jewish Central Information Office. German Edition." Appears to have run a total of 8 issues, with the final issue appearing in early 1935. The self-described objective of the "Jüdische Informations-Zentrale's" reports were to depict and inform on the political situation of Jews in the world, and especially in Germany. Dr. Alfred Wiener and his family "fled Germany in 1933 and settled in Amsterdam [Anne Frank and her family fled Germany to Amsterdam that same year as well]. Later that year he set up the Jewish Central Information Office (JCIO) at the request of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Anglo-Jewish Association. This archive collected information about the Nazis, which formed the basis of campaigns to undermine their activities. Following the November Pogrom of 1938,… Read More
