Besides regularly working as a photographer for Condé Nast publications, such as the Vogue, he pursued a career as a stage and costume designer for films and the theatre. He won three Academy Awards for his art directorial work as well as for his costume designs. Mona von Bismarck (1897-1983) was a long-time friend of Beaton. .

Strictly limited to 1,000 numbered copies, this is number 558. The book is handbound in quarter vellum, blocked on the spine in 22-carat gold, with vellum tips and paper sides blocked in three shades of metallic foil. Each copy contains a limitation spread with a tipped-in etching, hand-printed under the artist's supervision and signed by him with the limitation number.
