Description:
Boston: Little, Brown and Company,, 1951. An extremely rare presentation from the reclusive author First edition, first printing, presentation copy, inscribed by the author to the teenage son of his childhood friend Ada on the front free endpaper: "To Charles Kirtz with every good wish from J. D. Salinger (extra greetings to Ada and Victor from Sonny Salinger) New York 10/18/56". This is an exceptional rarity: signed or inscribed copies by the reclusive author are legendarily rare. The informal sign-off, "Sonny", was the nickname given to Salinger by his parents when he was born. Salinger, who grew up alongside Ada and her brother Victor in the same New York apartment house, presented Ada's sons, Charles (then around the same age as Holden Caulfield) and William, each with an inscribed first edition. He passed on the copies to the boys via Ada's mother, Ann, whose bookplate is on the front pastedown. An inscribed copy of Catcher in the Rye is perhaps the most elusive prize in 20th-century literature.…

Description:
Boston: Little Brown and Company, 1951. Early printing, printed in the year of publication of the author's classic novel. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author in the year of publication on the front free endpaper, "December 24, 1951 To Elizabeth Fueller- with best wishes J.D. Salinger." Salinger's signature is scarce and signed examples of The Catcher in the Rye are rare. Very good in a very good supplied dust jacket. Jacket design by Michael Mitchell. Photograph of Salinger by Lotte Jacobi. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box made by the Harcourt Bindery. Exceptionally scarce, most rare and desirable inscribed and in the year of publication. Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher In the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent." Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school, in a slang that sounds edgy even today and keeps this novel on banned book lists. It…

Description:
Boston: Little, Brown and Company,, 1951. The handbook of the adolescent heart First edition, first printing, first issue jacket in exceptional condition. Celebrated by critics and cherished by many generations of adolescents, the work is widely recognized as the great American post-war coming-of-age novel. Between 1961 and 1982, it was the most censored title in American high schools and libraries. Salinger's coming-of-age novel is the perhaps the definitive story of teenage angst. It offers Holden Caulfield's perspective on school, New York City, sexuality, family and friends, and, of course, phonies, with a subtext on alienation and loneliness running throughout the book. "In American writing, there are three perfect books, which seem to speak to every reader and condition: Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby, and The Catcher in the Rye. Of the three, only Catcher defines an entire region of human experience: it is - in French and Dutch as much as in English - the handbook of the adolescent heart"…

Boston: Little, Brown & Company, 1952. First Edition. Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Author. Salinger, J.D. THE CATCHER IN THE RYE. Signed. Boston: Little Brown, 1952. A fine SIGNED copy of the March, 1952 reprint of the first edition. [The first issue was July, 1951]. 8vo., 277pp., black cloth, gilt. Salinger's remarkable first book, neatly signed in black fountain pen at the top of the title page. An excellent example of Salinger's elusive signature - The binding is fine; the dustwrapper very good or better with the $3.00 price present & nine reviews on the back panel replacing Salinger's photo after the first few early printings at his insistence. Custom clamshell case in very fine condition. The probable High Spot in Modern American Lit collecting, "The Catcher In The Rye is undoubtedly a 20th-century classic. It struck a popular note, particularly with young readers, who strongly identified with Holden Caulfield and his yearning for lost innocence.…

Boston: Little, Brown & Co, 1951. First edition. Fine/Near Fine. A Fine copy of the book in Near Fine dust jacket. Jacket with the spine a bit toned, as often, and two small amateur tap repairs to the verso. Rear panel a bit scratched and rubbed, but overall a very presentable copy of the work. With all relevant issue points, including original price (in the correct place on the flap), Salinger's hair touching the upper edge of the rear panel, and "First Edition" stated on the copyright page. Housed in a custom slipcase with chemise. Salinger's novel was not the first coming-of-age story to highlight teenage angst, but it sits squarely at the pinnacle of those efforts. It offers Holden Caulfield's perspective on school, New York City, sexuality, family and friends, and, of course, phonies, with a subtext on alienation and loneliness running throughout the book.
