London: Chapman & Hall, 1870. Fresh and unopened First edition, in the original monthly parts as published between April and September 1870, and a particularly nice set. The author's final work, it remained unfinished at the time of his death and has prompted much speculation as to the resolution of the mystery. Parts 1-5 have all the points called for by Hatton and Cleaver except for the absence of the "Cork Hat" slip in part 2 (sometimes speculated as indicative of early issue); part VI has variant initial and terminal advertisements (those at front matching that of part II and possibly supplied), however has the earlier issue overprice slip printed "Price Eighteenpence" to the front wrapper. 6 monthly parts, as issued. Original blue-green printed wrappers. Housed in a custom green quarter morocco solander box and green cloth chemise. With engraved title page, frontispiece, and 12 plates. London: Chapman and Hall, 1870. In the publisher's primary cloth binding First edition in book form, scarce in the original cloth in such nice condition. This copy is in Smith's binding variant A, described by Kremers as "primary and earlier" (p. 243), with the sawtooth border to the front board and the rear board stamped in black rather than in blind. The Mystery of Edwin Drood was projected to be published in twelve monthly parts, but Dickens had only completed six parts when he died of a stroke. Octavo. Original green bead-grain cloth, spine lettered in gilt and decoratively stamped in black, sawtooth and double-line border to front board in black…
