Worn corners nudged and/or bumped. Mild scuffing. There is a 1" scratch to front cover and a very thin crease the full width of rear cover about .75" down from top edge. Light acid transfer to endpapers, text lightly age-tanned. Sixteen portraits of influencial men including frontispiece portrait of George Dewey with tissue guard. 439 pp. Unmarked and tightly bound. "He that sips of many arts drinks of none" is written in gilt and framed in same to front board. "In this volume the author has endeavored to give practical assistance to young men in selecting the mark and fixing their gaze upon it. He must have assistance in selecting the high mark which is to be the object of his constancy to purpose, " (introduction).
