Disbound16-page detailed report made by the Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations to discuss memorials and petitions of various organizations and States on the "colonization of persons of colour", the idea being that the U.S. acquire a territory on the African coast to serve as an asylum "for the reception of free persons of colour, and liberated slaves"; that the U.S. provide funds to transport such persons; and that the U.S. government support the American Colonization Society. The objection of the States of Georgia and South Carolina) to such a plan is noted.Tazewell (1774- 1860) was a senator and later was governor of Virginia. Pages somewhat foxed, lower corner of last page missing but overall presentation of this scarce imprint is excellent..

Includes photographic frontispiece of author. Walker is described as President and Promoter of The African Civilization Movement which, on p. 1, is described as pleading "for a full measure of justice, right, and equality for all mankind". The executive committee of the association includes men from Nova Scotia as well as Saint John. Walker was a lawyer and journalist, described in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography as "the leading man of his race in the Maritimes" in the mid 1890s. Last page is membership form. Covers soiled , chips to lower spine, corner of one page missing, but text not affected, interior completely clean in this scarce publication..
